Above and Below

In this ongoing series, I use layered print media, collage, and assemblage to convey worlds above and below the visible surface of Earth.

This work is informed by satellites that detect structures buried underground and transmit imagery from above. As we stand on the ground, we are sandwiched in the middle between subterranean and aerial visualizations. By combining our human perspective with the remote lenses above, I create a collage of spatial relationships formed from seeing in both directions. This logic extends to the materiality of the textiles and print surfaces, on which I build up images through repeated printing on the same surface, or by cutting and reassembling sections like tracts of land or satellite mosaics.
