Dear Friends,

As 2025 draws to a close, I’m taking a moment to reflect and share news from the studio. I hope this season has brought you kindness, warmth, and good health. This was an unusual year: I contracted Long Covid last December, and the illness has affected all parts of my life and work, so the studio practice has naturally looked different. Despite the challenge of navigating long-term illness and new disability, there were many gratifying moments—here are a few.

From Fragments to Coherence: Sevil Dolmacı, Dubai

This exhibition was expertly curated by Ipek Ulusoy. Iİpek visited my studio in Qatar in 2015; ten years later, that connection grew into a richly creative project alongside 12 wonderful artists. The exhibition included Moving Image Panorama, a video still printed on seven panels of silk organza (installation views shown above and left) and my 15-minute video Viking Lander.

Assembly at the ICA at MECA&D

Archive 192 in Baltimore and Denver

My silver gelatin print titled Drawing, and two lumen prints were exhibited in Archive 192, a non-profit research archive of photographic abstraction by women, founded in 2015. Portions of the collection were shown at the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery, and the Colorado Photographic Arts Center in Denver. I’m grateful to the archive founders Louie Palu and Chloe Coleman for their decade-long effort in championing under-recognized artists and sharing the collection with the public.

Archive 192 is ready to travel! If you know of a venue that would benefit from exhibiting a century of experimental abstraction by women photographers through rare prints, books, and ephemera, please get in touch! Works are framed and crated.

The Halide Project: A Decade in Light

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, The Halide Project exhibited analog photo-process work by its community of artists, instructors, former board members, and guest jurors in Philadelphia. I contributed a series of 16 phytograms, Solar Array, inspired by the solar panel formations on satellites. These are 5×7” film sheets were exposed to sunlight with a homemade clove and vitamin C developer, and fixed in my kitchen.

Upcoming: January Film Feature on Labocine

My eight-minute short film Unraveling Mars will be included in Labocine’s 10th anniversary of programming for the January Issue. Labocine has gathered an online collection of films exploring the theme of Archives, which will be streaming during the month of January. Unraveling Mars was filmed in the archives of the Eastman Museum and made possible with a Cuts and Burns video-editing residency from Outpost Artist Resources in Ridgewood, Queens, NY.

This Issue opens the year by diving into the traces cinema leaves behind—fragments, recordings, found material, and the images we repurpose or reinvent. Between preservation and transformation, Archives explores how memory is built, erased, or imagined on screen.

You may have noticed a repeated harkening back to 2015 in the events of this year. That unexpected decade theme emerged as I put the newsletter together, and it is a good reminder that some works travel on long timelines and come to fruition years after the initial launch. Living slower this year, partly due to Long Covid, has taught me to accept a gentler pace and look for certain kinds of seeing and making only available to the close observer. And now we can ponder, how will the experiences of 2026 percolate into the years ahead?
